When Dr. Peter Antevy is at the Joe DiMaggio Emergency Department, he treats pediatric patients with a myriad of illnesses, injuries and chronic conditions. He is committed to giving these children and their patients the best possible care. In the past two years, he has received more than a dozen “Top Patient Satisfier Awards” from the hospital, further evidence of his connection to patients.
But Dr. Antevy, who is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine, carries his concern for kids far beyond the Joe DiMaggio Emergency Department. In fact, on February 23, he spoke to the National Drowning Prevention Associations conference on Miami Beach on the medical aspect of pediatric drowning. He also has been a keynote speaker at Joe DiMaggios annual sports safety clinic for area coaches and spoken along side Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on child safety issues, Dr. Antevy feels very strongly about the need to “get the word out” about childrens safety and speaks to area groups on topics such as “pediatric shock,” “pediatric resuscitation,” and “management of the pediatric code.”
Dr. Antevy also serves as Pediatric Medical Director of the Broward College EMS program, training first responders on the proper care of pediatric patients in the field. “Those first few minutes at an accident scene or home emergency are often critical. EMS personnel need to think and act quickly so they can deliver optimum care immediately,” Antevy pointed out.
Dr. Antevy has a B.S. degree from the University of Florida and a medical degree from the UM Miller School of Medicine. He completed his specialty training at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles and received his subspecialty degree at Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh. He has been on staff at Joe DiMaggio Childrens Hospital since July, 2005.
